Nobe resigns as Uni girls basketball coach

IRVINE - Mike Nobe has resigned as girls basketball coach at University and been replaced by former Woodbridge player Nicole Bradshaw.

Nobe made his decision before the end of the school year and said Wednesday he resigned to spend more time with his family.

He capped his coaching career by leading the Trojans to a share of the Pacific Coast League title with Woodbridge this past season.

"My biggest highlight was winning our last five league games to become co-champs of the league this past season," Nobe said.

Nobe started coaching at University with the lower level boys team. He then took over the girls program for the past four years and had an overall record of 68-40.

"We finished in second place in league for the first three years and were co-champs this past season," he said.

Nobe was a walk-on coach. His full-time job is being the Director of Business Development at Consolidated Fire Protection in Irvine.

"I have no plans to return to coaching but I am sure that I will miss it tremendously," he said. "I had terrific support from everyone at Uni, starting with Mike Dinneen, who gave me the opportunity to coach the boys at Uni and then (Principal) John Pehrson, Mark Cunningham and Chris Conlin (the two athletic directors) who were so supportive when I took over the girls program."

Nobe said he is optimistic about the future of the University program.

"I feel that the future of University girls basketball is very bright for the next few years as we are returning two players who started last year as sophomores, Emily Reiland (an all-league point guard) and Dana Bossenmeyer," Nobe said. "Also returning is Melodie Yu, one of our top rebounders and scorers."
